Georgist Registry Annual ReportBenjamin Banneker Center for Economic Justice and ProgressThe Benjamin Banneker Center for Economic Justice and Progress is a Maryland nonprofit organization dedicated to Georgist/Geoist/Geonomic outreach and journalism. Its current Board of Directors are Hanno Beck, Lindy Davies, Mike O'Mara and Jeff Smith.
The Center is a pioneer and ongoing leader in movement activities over the Internet. Its main website, The Progress Report, has offered daily updates of news and commentary since 1997. Fred Foldvary, Senior Editor of the Progress Report, has contributed an editorial every week since then, 621 in all. The site's discussion board is a lively meeting place for interested readers worldwide. The Progress Report currently averages about 210,000 page views per month (not hits, which count images and other page elements separately, but instances in which individuals chose to view a page on the site). This level of traffic is far greater than any other Georgist website.
The Banneker Center has also created websites for other organizations that lacked the wherewithal to do so themselves, including the Council of Georgist Organizations and Common Ground-USA ( both of which have recently taken over management of their own sites), and the Forum on Geonomics. It has also created outreach-oriented special-interest sites such as the Democratic Freedom Caucus, Corporate Welfare Shame Site, Green Economics, Sprawl, and a Museum of Tax Oddities. Additionally, the Center operates the Ask Henry search engine, which attempts to index the entire movement's "webspace" and also provides individual search-engine functionality for participating sites, including the Henry George Institute, Henry George School and School of Cooperative Individualism.
Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806) was a descendant of slaves in Maryland who, despite the overwhelming racial prejudice of his time, achieved a remarkably high level of self-education and led a life of distinguished scientific and intellectual achievement. He was a surveyor, inventor, skilled craftsman and pioneering astronomer.
